Bon Iver - Blood Bank (2009)
I've been listening to this a lot on my long drive to work and this video seems to capture that journey perfectly. So it is apt that last week, I caught the 'entertainment' news on the radio and was pleasantly surprised to find out that Bon Iver had won two Grammys.
I always have a wry smile when 'alternative' crosses over to the mainstream as I take a little pleasure in knowing I discovered them before they made it big. It must have been great for Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver), when he won Best Alternative Album, but surely he would have been a little bit embarrassed when he won Best New Artist? (The criteria for best new artist must mean you can get nominated, as long as you've never been nominated before!)

Tulis commentsNow 'everybody' Loves BI is it the end! is JV the new Chris Rea.Good track by the way.
ReplyJustin Vernon the new Chris Rea? I assume you mean the 'Road to Hell' syndrome? I really like this song and 'For Emma' is amazing but his voice/vocal style is now starting to grate on me. Is it just me?
ReplyYes the Road to Hell syndrome. But sfw is better than that?
ReplyI was in Leeds in the summer and saw some buskers covering his songs. They did expert impersonations but it made me feel like something was changing. Popularity can be a terrible thing! The road to hell? I know what you mean. His voice does start to grate after a while but I think that's just a symptom of so many people doing a similar thing now.
ReplySB I think you're right. I remember when Pearl Jam exploded on to the scene in the 90's, there used to be a few bands trying to emulate Eddie Vedder's vocal style, Creed and Crash Test Dummies. It wasn't Pearl Jam's fault but it was so annoying.
