TUESDAY BLUES! The Eels - Can't Help Falling in Love With You

The Eels - Can't help falling in love with you
Here's a great version of the Elvis classic that randomly appeared on the iPod playlist yesterday. I hadn't heard it before as it was on one of the albums that I'd borrowed and burned but hadn't listened to. This admission becomes even more shameful as I've always liked the Eels, which is the project name of songwriter Mark Oliver Everett (or 'E'). From their early blend of melancholy and beats on beautiful freak, to his songs of broken love on end times (their's a theme here) they've always been consistent and although it's sometimes a bit dark he's had good reason to be. (His father, quantum physicist Hugh Everett III, died, his sister committed suicide and his mother died of lung cancer).

Well on that happy note, how do I follow that? All I can say is the genius of this version made me listen deeper to those 'oh-so-familiar' lyrics and think of loved ones, which in my case is the wife and the dog.

Still got room for another slice of melancholy? If so, try more Tuesday Blues here!

Mark Everett rules. Love the man and his music. His dad did some great work, too.

Nice, I kind of lost track of the Eels since their early stuff, I don't know why because I really liked them. What a loser...the picture looks like a scene from the stupid road trip caper Due Date.

I think we all lost touch after 'Mr. E's beautiful blues' it seems, what a great track that was though! This is a gorgeous cover, when was it from?
