Musical Medicine....a track that's like egg and chips for the soul!
This is how we roll in Santa Clara...
INXS and Jimmy Barnes - Laying Down The Law (1987)
They don't make them like this anymore! I was channel surfing the other day and I caught the end of The Lost Boys. It reminded me how much I loved it all as a teenager and in particular, the Soundtrack. It is just littered with Nostalgia.
This was my favourite but I can never forget the testosterone fuelled "Rock Off" between Michael Hutchence & Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) on "Good Times". Good Times indeed.
Cold Chisel doing Knocking on Heaven's Door is up there with the Guns N' Roses version. What a great Aussie Band they were. If you are not familiar with their stuff, a greatest hits package will give you lots and lots of pleasure, see earlier post. There is an even better version of KOHD on their live album 'Swingshift(1981)' brilliant!. This take is from a Concert at the Manly Vale Hotel Sydney in 1980.
JIMMY BARNES - Seven Days(1988)
Here we have Jimmy Barnes (lead singer of Cold Chisel) doing his solo thing. This is a track from his album 'Freight Train Heart' (1988) and is a ripping great version of Bob's 7 days and highlights all that is good about JB. I still think JB has one of the best voices in Rock music. Rock on Jimmy. 'Aussie Rules'
Hello! all you Aussies out there, this one's for you.
I found Cold Chisel by chance, I was musically bored and bought several things that I had never heard of before and one of them was 'The Best of Cold Chisel'. For some reason I thought they were a heavy metal band and it was a pleasant surprise that they were not but they were just what I needed at the time with so many brilliant songs. 'Breakfast at Sweethearts' was my instant favourite and I loved the slight reggae feel to it.
I was on vacation in Pattaya, we used to go there often for a spot of R&R (I worked in Saudia Arabia), I will always remember an all nighter we had, in the 'pink light district', plenty Singha beer, music and laughter. We went back to a friends Hotel room overlooking Pattaya Bay and watched the sunrise before going down for the Hotel breakfast. It was quite literally the best breakfast I have ever had and spinning around my head were the words :
Six o'clock I'm going down,
The coffee's hot and the toast is brown,
Hey! street-sweeper, clear my way,
Sweethearts' breakfast the best in town.
woh o-o-oh, Breakfast at Sweethearts.
Oh! To be back there now. I will just have to settle for Cold Chisel and several San Miguels
We later visited an Australian Navy ship in Jeddah Harbour and I was an instant hit with my knowledge of the 'Australian Beatles' and of course Rolf Harris.
