The Who - My Generation/Bob Dylan - Restless Farewell

OLD PA'S WEDNESDAY CLUB
BUS PASS TIME
An Old Fart

THE WHO - My Generation

'Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty-four'  said Paul McCartney in his famous song to his dad about getting old.

Bloody 'ell!  I am 65 on Sunday and officially become an Old Age Pensioner.  An Old Age Pensioner, are you jocking?.  I can't believe it !  What an 'orrible thought. You never quite think about becoming a Pensioner,  but unfortunately it creeps or should I say steam rollers up on you like an  express train.

But I am not quite ready for the arm chair, I will not be sitting in God's waiting room. No thank you!, that is not for me. As long as I am  'fit'  there are a few things that are on my Bucket List that I would like to do, before I pop my clogs or kick that bucket.

I still harbour dreams of doing a marathon and if my feet can hold out (I have had a few problems recently) I am still determined to do it, or give it a shot. I have also had for some time now, this idea of climbing Kilimanjaro. I would especially love to do it with my kids. It is a bit of a challenge, you hike up to 5 hours a day and the air gets quite thin up there. What I like about it is that you start in tropical surroundings and end up in possible Arctic conditions.

Bring it on! Baby!.

Can you handle it Shellhunter, Flycasual, London Scouser ?.

As you already know, I love my music, but I have never been to a Musical Festival. I have just got to do it. Mud, Wellies, Tornadoes,  bring it on I am ready for the experience.  It's on My List.

I think that is enough to begin with, but when that is completed. I will go on to phase 2.

So don't you dare call me an 'old fart'.

THE WHO - My Generation

OLD PA's WEDNESDAY CLUB for REGIS R.I.P

I Hope I Die Before I get Old!
Old Ma and Regis! 1983

THE WHO - My Generation (1965)

This post is dedicated to Regis Serre the brother of Old Ma and really, the last of her closest family. Regis passed away last week at the age of 78.

At my age you do start to think about your own vuneribility, especially when you hear of old school friends and work colleagues  'dropping off'.'

Sorry about that!  but it does come a more frequent event the older you get. My Sister Rose said at our age,
it is a case of  'dodging bullets'.

Both Old Ma and myself have dodged a few sniper shots ourselves, over the passed couple of years. But we are still here up and blogging!

I am glad  (thankful)  that I have made it to my age, (I am only 64)  rather than having had to go  'over the trench wall'  in the first world war  or 'rush the beaches' at Normandy. So really, reaching 64 years is a lot better than the many many good souls, who were taken at the prime of their lives, in these two horrible wars.

'so hey! be thankful Bro!'

Sorry for being a bit morbid,  but it kind of hits you when someone close to you goes!

I have always loved  My Generation by The Who. The immortal line ' hope I die before I get old'  is something I and a lot of the fifties/sixties generation have probably said at one time. We would rather die before we became a bother or a burdon to our kids, or infact a burdon to anyone.

Take my old Mum, she was visiting me a few years ago before she passed away and I found out she had a health problem and when I asked her why did she not tell me about it. I got the same old response :

'I din't want to bother you'

I had to scold her, tell her off :

'it is much worse now, if only you had told me sooner....' .

Thank God! we have progressed from that kind of mentality!!

Have we?

I did not get to know Regis well, as he lived in Canada, but I would have loved to have know him better..

WEDNESDAY CLUB - The Clash - Complete Control

MIDWEEK CRISIS? Your life is spinning away? Come to WEDNESDAY CLUB, we've got the Clash, they will soon have you back in control.

THE CLASH - Complete Control (1977)

There are some songs you will always remember the first time you heard them, 'Complete Control' by the Clash is one. I had to pick my wife up from Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 and I was a bit late. I was just going through the tunnel to the terminals when the song came on. I was totally stunned and must have gone into auto pilot (airport - get it?) and I missed my turning so I stopped in a lay by until it had finished. It took me a couple of minutes before I could compose myself to pick my wife up as my head was still in a spin.  I had to tell someone, I tried to tell her about this great song but all I got was a bollocking for being late.

THE CLASH - Complete Control (Live)

My love affair with the Clash had well and trully started. I had the great pleasure of seeing Jo Strummer with his band the Mescaleros they were supporting The Who. Oh! boy that was a night to remember it took me days to come down. I still have the T-shirt from that night (I won't get fooled again)
In control
What songs did you hear for a first that will be there forever in the memory bank?
