Sea Wolf - Young Bodies

TUESDAY BLUES

Do you like Singer/Songwriters/Alt-Country/Americana or Indie-Folk, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues!

Sea Wolf - Young Bodies (2014)
The excellent Sea Wolf, a.k.a. Alex Brown Church has become a bit of favourite of mine over the last few years.  All of their material is great, but the Kickstarter funded, Song Spells, No. 1: Cedarsmoke is a bit special. The pay-what-you-want-album, should be looked as a limited edition masterpiece that gives fans (and the unconverted) a singer/songwriter at the top of his game.  The only disappointing thing is that you cannot get it on vinyl! Do yourself a favour and download it via the official website.

Conor Oberst - Double Life

TUESDAY BLUES

Do you like Singer/Songwriters/Alt-Country/Americana or Indie-Folk, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues!

Conor Oberst - Double Life (2014)

When I first heard Bright Eyes (Conor Oberst) 2005 album "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" I believed I'd found another Dylan. A songwriter who mixed poetry, storytelling and into songs that touched the soul. I was hooked.  With every release I'd religiously purchase his albums and despite being often impressed, I'd be left wanting.  So this year I didn't buy it and instead I let it find me.  So last weekend I thought I'd give it a go and I've been listening to his latest Upside Down Mountain ever since.

Trevor Borden - Giants

TUESDAY BLUES

Do you like Singer/Songwriters, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues!

Trevor Borden - Giants (2013)
Here is someone new that I've been listening to of late. Trevor Borden was born in Kenya (where his parents were working), went to high school in Portugal and eventually settled in Santa Barbara, California.

Giants is a track that caught me off guard - I couldn't remember where I'd found it - until I'd realised that I'd downloaded via Noisetrade  (where you can download the Giants EP for free).

For such a young chap, his material does seem a bit good.  Give it a download/listen - it's solid songwriting.

Jeremy Squires - Oblivious

TUESDAY BLUES

Do you like Singer/Songwriters, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues!

Jeremy Squires - Oblivious (2013)

I know I jest about Tuesday Blues being a little gloomy, but for me it is an opportunity for me to share singer/songwriters who I find inspiring.

Here is someone who I know very little about but after hearing this I've wanted to find out more! Jeremy Squires is a multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter from North Carolina. I know it isn't one of the happiest of tracks, but his haunting melodies, evocative lyrics reminds me of songwriters such as Richard Buckner and Damien Jurado. Oblivious features on his recently released album, When Will I Go.

If you like the above, have a listen to this cover of Damien Jurado's Sheets - you can certainly hear the influence within his songwriting!

Gregory Alan Isakov - Living Proof

Tuesday Blues

Do you like Singer/Songwriters, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues!

Gregory Alan Isakov - Living Proof (2013)

Where have I been?  I've only just 'discovered' Gregory Alan Isakov and feel that I should lined up and beaten with a stick and slapped with a fish. (A little harsh).  Born in South Africa, he emigrated to the United States as a child and and now resides in Colorado.

Living Proof features on his 5th album, The Weatherman, which was released in July and was recorded mostly in solitude outside the mountain town of Nederland, Colorado.

Dare I say it has leapfrogged itself in my top 10 albums of the year, well, I just did!
