GERRY AND THE PACEMAKERS - You'll Never Walk Alone

There has not been too many great football songs if fact probably a lot more bad ones than good.
To me there is only really one great song and that is You'll Never Walk alone used by both Liverpool and Celtic. I believe Liverpool has the greater claim as the version of the song by Gerry and the Pacemakers were by the group who came from Mersey side.

If you do not already know the song is originally from the Musical Carousel. I have added the Pink Floyd song Fearless as they sample the Liverpool crowd singing the song at the end of the song. Great stuff.

Can Scotland qualify for the next big tournament?. They have a chance!. Here is my attempt for the next Scottish football song, Cliches included. Well it's better than Blue is the Colour. What do you think?. Could Rod be lead vocals.  I would prefer Tom Waits, I wonder if he would??

Go on Tom you can wear my kilt.

WEDNESDAY CLUB - Pink Floyd - Poles Apart

-WEDNESDAY CLUB goes to Bushey Park for a 'summer do' and the Pink Floyd blow me a way!-

I have always liked Pink Floyd (most people do) since the early days with Sid Barrett. 'See Emily Play', 'Interstellar Overdrive' etc. When Sid sadly left in 1968 they still continued with a series of great albums 'Atom Heart Mother' and of course the 'Dark Side of the Moon'. I actually bought the album to be the first album to be played on my first 'proper' stereo system. Wow! it sounded fantastic, this was 1973. and I lived on Richmond Hill.

I continued buying Floyd albums up to the  'Final Cut' (1983)  which  for all intents and purpose was a Rodger Waters solo album. I persevered with his solo career which I would describe as patchy. PF's out put after 'Waters;' left I did not even bother to listen to. Their time had come and gone as far as I was concerned. Floyd without Rodger Waters, was no Floyd at all.

I was reluctantly at my Wife's 'summer do' in  Bushy Park. It actually turned out a pretty good affair and I had to admit I enjoyed myself.  After, Old Ma and I went round for drinks (more) to one of her friends house (I don't have friends) and they put on  'The Division Bell' (1994) by the Floyd (minus Waters).  I was really surprised (even shocked)  how good it was, almost folky in parts. The song  'Poles Apart' just blew me away. I bought the album immediately of course.

It just goes to show, doesn't it!

When they reformed for the 'Live 8' gig, it really was a big chicken skin moment.

DYLAN COVERS # 44 - Dave Gilmore - Like a Rolling Stone/The Clash - The Man in Me

DAVE GILMOUR - Like a Rolling Stone

This one is by none other than Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd and is taken from  a bootleg 'On A Tree full of Secrets'. The story goes that Dave was playing with one of his kids on one of those Casio piano type things. Rumour has it that he was well impressed and at one time was going to release it as a single but thought better of it. Why Dave? I think it is great, but  'I don't like reggae, I  love her'.

THE CLASH - The Man in Me

This is another one that has that warm up in the studio feel. But it is nice to hear one of my favourite groups doing the business with 'The Man in Me',  not a too widely covered song. It was first released on a bootleg album called the  'Vanilla Tapes'  but it has now been included  as part of the 25th anniversary release of  the 'London Calling' album.

DYLAN COVER # 12 - Pink Floyd/Roger Waters - Knocking on Heavens Door


Pink Floyd - 'Knocking on Heavens Door'

This version by the Floyd is from an 18 CD set called 'A Tree full of Secrets' and is excellent. It's a pity it is not just a little bit longer but we can't get too greedy, can we? It is full of little Pink Floyd-isms but that is why we love them, well most of us.

But what about this other version by Roger Waters, I missed it when it first came round but what a pleasure to find such a gem. I believe Eric Clapton is guesting :

It Appeared on 'The Dybbuk of the Holy Apple Field Soundtrack (1998)' and is available on the Album the Flickering Flames Vol 1 the Solo years.

If you have not heard it, your in for a treat.
