Absence makes the the heart grow fonder! Having spent a few weeks away from the blog I am itching to get back into it. The last few weeks I have had the joy - if that is the right word - of parenthood. Time spent wiping bottoms, cleaning up and feeling exhausted makes me wonder how humanity has survived this long! Everyone tells you the same - say goodbye to sleep - and they are right! It's blinking exhausting! (Un)fortunately now I'm back in work which does mean my 4 hour commute does at least give me time to savor some music and not listen to nursery rhymes!!!
Lateness of Dancers is the title track of Hiss Golden Messengers 2014 release. Just listening to the intro will quickly take you to the MC Taylor's North Carolina porch. A perfect track to teleport you from this shi££y UK weather! Both album and live version here are cracking!

INXS and Jimmy Barnes - Laying Down The Law (1987)
They don't make them like this anymore! I was channel surfing the other day and I caught the end of The Lost Boys. It reminded me how much I loved it all as a teenager and in particular, the Soundtrack. It is just littered with Nostalgia.
This was my favourite but I can never forget the testosterone fuelled "Rock Off" between Michael Hutchence & Jimmy Barnes (from Cold Chisel) on "Good Times". Good Times indeed.
In 2012, Chan Marshall (a.k.a. Cat Power) returned with a curve ball in the shape of her brightest sounding album yet - Sun (pardon the pun). Ruin has a infectious rhythmic piano melody, lyrics based on travel and has everything you should want in a song. Unfortunately, she's recently been unwell and had to cancel her European Tour. We hope you get well soon!
One of musics hardest working grafters sent me on a marathon with this track from his 2012 album A Wasteland Companion. Mostly known for his work with Monsters of Folk, She and Him and a plethora of others, this beautiful song (& video) got me running again and again!
Trust me to end the year on a downer! This completely bewitching track featured in the brutal Paddy Constantine masterpiece, Tyrannosaur. I just totally adore this song. Were we wasted? Nah!

INXS - Don't Change (1982)
Firstly, while Flycasual is away....I get to post a track that I love....
"Don't Change" is an absolute classic that sounds as good today as it did then (it featured originally on the album 'Shabooh Shoobah'). It wasn't the first track I ever heard by INXS, but it was one of their earliest songs that really cemented their place as my favourite band as a teenager. It had a synth intro, punky edge, 80's 4/4 beat and a singer so charismatic you wanted to grow your hair long and get a perm (I did 50% of that).
In school, INXS were MY band, I played the albums "Original Sin", "Kick" & "X" to death. They were rock stars, their songs featured in "The Lost Boys" and not to forget the Kick album cover featured a Skateboard (it's a Vision Psycho stick) all of which was important to a 13yr old teenager. As I got older their appeal started to wane, but I always bought their albums and followed any news about the band. (before the 'net!) So when I heard in 1997 that Michael Hutchence died...I was gutted. My first rock star gone....
Last year I heard this by Beck - it should help you remember the greatness of the band! Here are two tracks from that session that you need to hear - "Calling All Nations" & "New Sensation"
