CALEXICO - Love will Tear us Apart x 2

OLD PA'S WEDNESDAY CLUB

CONGRATS SHELLHUNTER AND LONDON SCOUSER, ITS A GIRL : RIPLEY, BORN 15/03/2015

CALEXICO - Love Will Tear Us Apart (2010)

Two much going on for my normal Posts. I was watching a Joy Division programme that Old Ma taped for me, She must love me 'cause she hates Joy Division. In the programme they mentioned Love Will Tear Us Apart covers and mentioned Calexico and I just had to Pause and well what you get now is the result.

How did I miss that ??

The Calexico studio track is from  Sweetheart: Our Favourite Artists Sing Their Favourite Love Songs (2010).

The live version is taken from a live show on 10/05/2013 @ Santa Monica Pier. It is a shame the quality is not great as it is utterly fabulous.

TRACKS OF THE WEEK 08-02-2015 - All We Are, Duke Garwood, Calexico

Three tracks that left us staring out to sea...

Old Pa's Corner:-
Duke Garwood - Heavy Love (2015)

Duke Garwood is another new name for me but when I heard this 'slow groover' I was soon into that groove. This is really good and it come from his new album of the same name Heavy Love (2015). I thought the sound was a bit familiar and with a bit of investigation I found it was co-produced by Mark Lanegan and that definitely comes through. Even the voice sounds a bit Markish.
Never the less great effort and makes me want to check out the rest of the album.

Shell Hunter:-
Calexico - 'Cumbia De Donde' (2015)
I was getting a lot of notifications that Calexico were touring the UK over April and May this year. As well as huffing and puffing over not being able to go as I'm due to drop a mini Shell Scouser mid March, I suspected new things must be on the horizon. A new track had appeared on Spotify which my ears gobbled up greedily and enjoyed immensely! It's the best of Calexico for the modern age! Traditionalists may poopoo the use of electronica but I think it's a clever way to introduce a bit of a change. Their new album Edge Of The Sun is out in April and I'm seriously thinking about bundling little London Hunter into a back pack Master Yoda style and heading to Shepherd's Bush! Joey and co NEVER disappoint!

SFW:-
All We Are - Keep Me Alive (2015)
I am delighted to hear that the Liverpool 3-piece are back with the amazing Keep Me Alive which features on their self-titled album that was released last week. It's already dropped into my albums of the year list (albeit we are only in February) with their disco infused pop. Fans of Wild Beasts, The XX might want to give it a spin.

FRONT ROW CENTRE - LATITUDE 2013 SPECIAL - DAY 1

Thanks to a good friend giving me a Guest Ticket for the whole weekend of Latitude Festival, I had the privilege of seeing one of the best line ups this year (or any year for that matter)! In my 3 part Latitude Front Row Centre Special, I will talk you through my top highlights over the three days of the Festival!

Latitude Festival Henham Park, Southwold, Suffolk on July 19th 2013

On Friday the weather was superb, it was a day for exploring the site but more importantly to start the festival off right! Maybe because it was the first day or maybe because the line up was excellent but it was the best day for me. I watched about 10 hours of constant music and although I'd like to talk about them all I have whittled it down to my fave 3 of the day. The beauty of a festival is the complete chilled out nature, there is room for everyone so therefore no need for me to squeeze though the crowds on my tip toes to try and see whats going on. Here, you pull up a piece of grass and lounge around sipping a cold cider soaking up the atmosphere, whilst seeing your chosen band or artist on huge screens with no pressure to catch the last train home! I was also horrified from festival toilets in the past but at Latitude, I couldn't have asked for more! There was always loo roll, hand sanitisers and no nasty surprises when you open that portaloo door! I was also amazed at the food choice! No nasty burger vans here, it was all gourmet, fresh and locally sourced food. Fancy a hog roast with fries? How about fresh Loch Fyne mussels? Or what about a stone baked pizza hot from the oven or a falafel and haloumi ciabatta? You name it, they've got it here!

Willy Mason - 'Oxygen'

As it was so hot and sunny out, the nature of the music I fancied hearing was of the chilled out softer kind. After seeing Theme Park and James Skelly & The Intenders, I was looking forward to seeing Willy Mason. For each gig, I decided on the 3 songs I'd most like to hear and although he didn't play Restless Fugitive he played great versions of Pick Up Truck, We Can Be Strong and of course Oxygen which was the first song from Willy I had heard. Sadly because there are so many acts to get through, the sets are shorter but Willy still managed to put across his laid back and jolly nice self. I could honestly listen to his relaxed American drawl all day long!

I Am Kloot - 'Hold Back The Night'

The evening was slowly beginning to draw in and what better way to meet it, than by watching I Am Kloot. It was the perfect time of day to hear them and the songs about skies, the days and nights fitted with the serene ambiance nicely. I adore lead singer John Bramwell's warm voice and was happy they played my favourites of These Days Are Mine with a guitar played "Arabian bit" and Northern Skies. All in all they seemed like very nice chaps!

Calexico - 'Maybe on Monday'

My festival pal managed to convince me to head to the front of the BBC6 tent as a big chunk of the crowd seemed to have dispersed to get a spot for Bloc Party. I'm so glad I did. I got a perfect view of Joey Burns doing their soundcheck! I had a totally unobscured view and a nice barrier to lean on. Having seen Calexico many times before I knew they always put on a great show but being so close was such a new experience. Their energy was infectious, they got the crowd whooping and clapping along Corona and Alone Again Or. The real head turners were Maybe On Monday from recent album Algiers and their grand finale of Guero Canelo. They just kept going and went through each band member to give them a chance in the spotlight, to show off their skills. It was truly fabulous and I came out of there absolutely buzzing all over. If I had to choose, I'd say they were my favourite gig for the whole 3 days!

Come back over the next couple of weeks to read about my round up of choices for Day 2 & 3 or click here! Until then, have a listen to my Latitude Spotify Playlist!

TUESDAY BLUES - Patrick Watson - 'Adventures in Your Own Backyard'

Do you like Singer/Songwriters, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues....and man flu!

Patrick Watson - 'Adventures in Your Own Backyard' (2012)

Sfw, poor guy, he's really sick, a serious bout of flu has bed ridden him for a few days. Thankfully it isn't the far more grave affliction, 'Man Flu' and he also tells me that he's lost 1/2 a stone...every cloud and all that. So unfortunately he won't be available to provide you with your usual dose of misery, that conch has been passed on to me. And I think I've ruined Christmas already as Sfw's already featured the Canadian singer/songwriter only last month (Step Out) but I think this will certainly cheer him up as it did me. We used to skate when we were younger (I still try) and I always go with the mantra, which a veteran skater told us at the time, 'Old Skate Dogs Never Die'. A mantra that almost unraveled for me the last time I stepped on my board to show my son 'how it's done', losing control of my skate only for it to slam into my shins....hard!

I came across this last week and I was completely captivated by it! Brilliantly edited by Brett Novak, it shows the breathtaking skating of Killian Martin at an eerily derelict water park, Patrick Watson providing the excellent and atmospheric soundtrack (with a hint of Mariachi, good for fans of Calexico).

Thanks to my friend Axal for sending this video last month.

Skate over to Patrick Watson's website here.....

TUNE DOCTOR'S PLAYLISTS - 'Our Bloody Valentine'

Ah Valentines...sometimes it's not just about a fluffy bunny, a padded greeting card or treating your partner to an 'Early Bird menu' at the Harvester. You could very well be single, indulging in a dinner for one or you could very well be heartbroken and be eating said fluffy bunny. Lucky for you we have all bases covered with TuneDr's very own Valentine's playlist, in love, the breakup and being alone.

Flycasual:-
In Love: Big Muff - 'My Funny Valentine' (1998)

Yep, they're called Big Muff. A track I first heard whilst I was falling in love with my now wife in New York.

The Breakup: Isaac Hayes - 'Walk On By' (1969)

Sometimes you need a girl to shit in your heart to truly start appreciating songs. Isaac Hayes' classic rendition of the Burt Bacharach composition is a firm favourite of mine and one such song. You hear so much more clearer after having your heart broken, at least that's one positive.

Alone: Soft Cell - 'Sex Dwarf' (1981)

Just because she liked 50 Shades of Grey didn't mean she'd go for this! Single now and are you surprised? Lets face it, if you're listening to this you are, or should be alone. "They all love your miniature ways". Horrifically good! I'm just glad the official video was of poor quality but if for any reason you need to ruin the mood on Valentine's day, see the video here.....

Old Pa's Corner:
In Love: Art Garfunkel - 'I've Only Got Eyes for You' (1975)

We have all been there, in a crowded place, but not being aware of anybody else but her or maybe making a horrible journey, that normally you want to end as soon as possible, but because she is with you, you want it to go on for ever. Why? because you Love her. You are in Love of course.

The Breakup: Righteous Brothers -'You've Lost that Loving Feeling' (1964)

Possibly one of the best records ever made, certainly in my top twenty. You always know when 'that loving feeling' is going. You feel the pain, the twisting Knife in your heart, you want to die, what is left in life, she was your world, your future, you love her!

Alone: The Four Tops - 'Ask the Lonely' (1965)

'Ask The Lonely' is one of the most underated 'breakup'songs of all time and one of my favourite/greatest voices of all time, the great  Levi Stubbs. Along with The Temptations, they knocked out some of the best pop music which my ears have had the pleasure to have heard. This is pure brilliance in the space of 3 minutes. You're stunned into submission, with the shear excellence of what can be achieved in such a  short space of time. When it finishes you just want to hear it again and again....isn't it great, when you can look back on 'all that pain' and now enjoy 'all that pain'.

Bob Marley once said ...'when music hits you feel no pain'. Seriously Bob! 'Go ask the lonely!!'

'Ask Me!'!
I'll be there

Shell Hunter:-
Love: The Lightning Seeds - 'Sense' (1992)

Its the simplicity of this track that I love. Who can explain the reason you feel the way you do when you're in love. "The only reason is just because". Fabulous!

Breakup: Limp Bizkit - 'Re-Arranged' (1999)

When you're hurting and hate the world, metal and angriness can be the best medicine. Fred Durst gets it so right in this seriously bitter song which I remember constantly playing after getting my heart broken many moons ago.

Alone: Beck - 'Nobodys Fault But My Own' (1998)

Beck beautifully encapsulates how you feel when you are on your own. You go over what you should/could have done differently and ultimately struggle not to blame yourself for what went wrong in your relationship.

London Scouser:-
In Love:  Dr Hook - 'A Little Bit More' (1976)

As a kid, I was subjected to Cliff Richard & Dr. Hook by my Mum. Nowadays that's tantamount to reaching for the phone and calling Childline. Now I'm getting older, I realise that the latter of Mum's choices have written some seriously great tracks. (Sylvia's Mother, Sexy Eyes to name a couple) and this one in particular gives me goose bumps when I hear it. Thanks Mum

The Breakup: Puddle Of Mudd - 'Blurry' (2001)

A great song which deals with a couple splitting up with a child in the middle. Thankfully I've never experienced this. But out of bad things, good things happen. This song.

Alone: Calexico - 'Alone (Again Or)' (2004)

One of my favourite covers by one of my favourite bands of probably my favourite Love song. Nuff said.

Sfw:-
In Love: - The Black Keys - 'You're The One' (2007)

This always makes me think of my wife and that is a good thing.

The Breakup: Ryan Adams - 'Call Me On Your Way Back Home' (2000)

When I first heard Heartbreaker it made me realise however bad I felt, Ryan felt worse.

Alone: Nirvana - 'In Bloom' (1992)
Anger, fear, hate,  Yoda used all of these to describe the dark side whereas I would also add Nirvana. I used to listen to this on my own. It may explain how I turned out!

Depedro - 'Don't Leave Me Now'

World Music Corner

Depedro - 'Don't Leave Me Now' feat Calexico (2009)

I would love to say that this perfect slice of Tex-Mex goodness evokes memories of a magical road trip across the Mojave desert or trying in vain to convince a sultry Mexican mamacita to share one last Margherita with me. Alas, the first time I heard this was on a family expedition to the glutton fest which is Toby Carvery but memorable nonetheless as it hit me like a giant slice of roast beef.

It has Calexico's unmistakable Alt-Country/Mariachi style that I have a real soft spot for. I love the brushed drumming and the way the horns sound like a departing steam train at the beginning and end of the song, as our desperado goes off to try and win his lady's heart back.

Would you like beef, gammon or turkey? I'll have the lot!

Depedro is the Moniker of former long time Madrid session guitarist Jairo Zavala, an artist who mixes elements of Afrobeat, reggae and blues but with his roots firmly in Latin music. It's this mix of genres that first attracted Calexico's Joey Burns to him who, as a result, invited Jairo to play with them whilst on their Spanish tour several years ago. Joey Burns subsequently offered to help Depedro produce his self titled debut album, from which 'Don't Leave Me Now' is taken from, at their studio in Tucson, Arizona. Depedro is releasing his 3rd album in April this year and it looks like Joey Burns' crew are at the helm again, See below.

You'll also be pleased to know that I opted for roast beef with all the trimmings and despite not going for seconds we all had a good feed.

COVER NERD! - SEXY COVERS (SCROOBIUS PIP / OP8)

I'm fairly new to this whole blogging game, but I felt already it was time to share a couple of songs which I have to put in the bracket 'SEXY'. I know I'm not the authority on being sexy so please let me know which songs float your boat!

Can You Feel It

When I think of Scroobius Pip, the word sexy doesn’t immediately spring to mind. No offence to the bearded genius, but he’s just not my personal cup of tea (to look at). However, this track off of his album Distraction Pieces absolutely is. I remember seeing Mr Pip in London in late 2011 at the Hoxton Bar & Grill and towards the end of his set, a girl joined him on stage and they did this. Being so different from the rest of the set and album that he was exclusively playing, it stuck in my mind.
I like the way Scroobius speaks the lyrics and then Natasha Fox bursts in sometimes just after sometimes at the same time. The combination gets me going and now whenever I hear the song, it gives me goose pimples, and makes me wanna dim the lights, pour some wine and make my own sweet music, and no not a solo record.
I listened to the original Kate Bush song, which has been described as the sexiest song ever. It’s good, but I have to say I prefer Natasha Fox’s vocals. Maybe it’s because I heard the cover first, which usually means that stays as my favourite.

When A Sexy Cover Isn't A Sexy Cover
A few years ago, I was looking on the internet for any Calexico related songs, and came across the band OP8 which has Joey & John from Calexico as well as their oft collaborator Howe Gelb of Giant Sand (amongst many). This track featuring Lisa Germano on vocals, is a cover of the Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood 1960’s recording.
For me the breathy way in which both the male & female voices almost whisper the lyrics, make the hairs on my neck stand up and sends shivers down my spine. The xylophone (on the original version) and the snare brush drumming complement the singing really well.

NERD ALERT! - Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip once auditioned for the X-Factor (see here for proof)

TRACKS OF THE WEEK - 16/09/12 - Easy Star All-Stars, Calexico, Kodaline, Atoms For Peace

Four tracks that were just so doggone good this week...what were yours? Let us know!

Old Pa's Corner :-
Calexico - Fortune Teller(2012)
I just became aware that one of my favourite groups 'Calexico' have a new album 'Algiers' out this week. I immediately sampled the new tracks and this one 'Fortune Teller' made an instant impression. I found this live take of the song which they did at a benefit concert at the Fox Tucson Theatre, January 15, 2012. I chose this version as it features a video of Calexico in all their glory with Joey Burns giving a supreme vocal performance.

As an added bonus here is a live accoustic session take for your edification.

Flycasual:-
Easy Star All-Stars - 'Thrillah' Feat Mickey General and Spragga Benz (2012)

Easy Star's Thrillah, a Reggae tribute album covering Michael Jackson's iconic album Thriller anyone? Eee-hee...shamon! Yes please! I'd normally be a bit dubious about cross genre covers as a bit of a novelty but the Easy Star All-Stars have a great track record (Pink Floyd, 'Dub Side of the Moon and Radiohead with 'Radiodread'). It's definitely an unenviable task to take on such a classic album and one I grew up with (who didn't) but they have done it justice, certainly on the majority of the tracks.

I'm especially pleased with Easy Star's Thrillah as it's perfect for incompetent dancers like myself. How many times have you seen drunken men at a wedding, upon hearing an MJ tune, all of sudden and inappropriately grab their crotch, kick out a leg and fall in a heap after trying to twirl like him? Instead I can request the DJ to play an Easy Star version, and despite the inevitable piss taking from my wife, skank and shuffle along to it, which I can do very well.

It was difficult to pick my favourite off the album and I couldn't possibly post two songs...that's against the rules. So to avoid confrontation, as I'm a lover not a fighter, check out 'The Girl is Mine' featuring Roots heavyweights, Steel Pulse here.....

Shell Hunter:-
Kodaline - 'All I Want' (2012)

This video had me gripped from the very start. It wasn't until the crescendo at the end that I realised sniffing, hey it was this song that has really made it a great video. The vocals have got a familiar Thom Yorke fragility to them. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, it normally isn't mine but it's managed to turn my head. And good timing too, the Dublin 4 piece has just released their debut EP simply titled 'The Kodaline' last week. The 4 tracks on it are all unique in my opinion, and I would struggle to categorise them into one genre. Perhaps rock-folk? Regardless, I can imagine them being welcomed into the Bon Iver, Dry The River loving community. Welcome I say! www.kodaline.com Click to see their other videos which are worth a watch too and sign up to their mailing list!

Sfw:-
Atoms For Peace - 'Default' (2012)

I am a sucker for Radiohead / Thom Yorke and all of Oxford's finest so whilst we await another album, Atoms For Peace will have to do! Atoms for peace are Thom Yorke, Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), multi-instrumentalist Mario Refosco, Joey Waronker (Beck) & Radiohead producer Nigel Goodrich.   This track can certainly be seen as a follow up to Thom Yorkes 2006 album The Eraser, and even if it's just a "bit of fun", it's got me intrigued and I can't wait to hear more. The B-side, 'Tamer Animals', a remix of a track by Other Lives – who have supported Radiohead on tour. I think it is brilliant, however my wife doesn't like the knocking in the background!

DYLAN COVERS # 54 ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL - Blonde on Blonde 3 of 3

FLAMING GROOVIES - Absolutely Sweet Marie

This is taken from their album 'Jumpin' in the Night'(1979). Other contenders were the versions by George Harrison and Rab Noakes
YO LA TENGO - 4th Time Round

Here is another one from that fabulous Soundtrack  'I'm not there' (2007) and it just pipped Calexico for that honour.

TONI PRICE - Obviously 5 Believers

This is from her album 'Hey' (1995) and apart from some some live poor quality versions, it was a choice between this one and a version by Sean Costello, both are equally good.

JOAN BAEZ - Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

I just love Joan Baez covering Dylan especially her 60's output. This is taken from her album exclusively of Dylan Covers 'Any Day Now' (1968). There are some real gems there,  Second in the list was the version by  Steve Howe (Formally of Yes) which is really quite good as well.
With your mecury mouth

So here you have it, the 14 tracks from 'Blonde on Blonde' covered,  hope you like my choices

TRACKS OF THE WEEK - 10/06/12 - Here We Go Magic, Smoke Fairies, Calexico, Father John Misty

Shell Hunter:-
Calexico - 'Para' (2012)

I was so worried about listening to this new track by Calexico. Would it be good? Would I like it? Would I be disappointed but force myself to like it? My panic was laced with excitement and anticipation......but I knew within the first few seconds that it was a winner! It's dark, eerie and the drama of the trumpets confirms Calexico still have what it takes to captivate me with their alluring and rustic americana sound. The new album called Algiers is set to come out in Europe in early September which is perfect for those of you who will be seeing them on tour (the London date is on September 18th at HMV Forum). Check out their website www.casadecalexico.com for more info and get yourself kitted out in their excellent Mexican Day Of The Dead-esque t-shirts! Download the track for free from Soundcloud below!

Old Pa's Corner:-
Smoke Fairies - Let Me Know (2012)
Do you belive in Fairies?

There seems to be a bit of a buzz about the 'Smoke Fairies' so I thought I would check them out. I was pleasantly surprised. The backing has a nice blusey feel along with nice harmonies and there is a little bit of an edge there too. They had a single out earlier this year 'Strange Moon Rising' and this is pretty good as well. It also helps that they are very pleasing to the eye. They remind me of that great girl band Hazeldine. This is certainly worth further investigation. And yes I do believe in Fairies!!

Sfw:-
Father John Misty - Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings
Father John Misty is the new musical project by former Fleet Foxes drummer and singer/songwriter J.Tillman.  His gentle singing style could grate on some, but I love it. Just stick it on and just enjoy it while you read the sunday papers - it might catch your subconscious and you may want more

This track can be downloaded from the official Sub Pop website here

Flycasual:-
Here We Go Magic - Alone but Moving (2012)

"You'll like this....not a lot but you'll like it!". Stunning dreamy single from the freaky Brooklyn quartet that just seems to slow down the world around you, I just love the synths. Just one of a number of stand out tracks from their 3rd album 'A Different Ship', it's full of quirks and atmospherics and it's my album of the moment (check the fantastic JJ Cale-esque 'Make Up Your Mind'). Much better than an evening with Paul Daniels!!

WORLD MUSIC CORNER - Ely Guerra - 'Dime Cuando Comenzo el Dolor' / Calexico - 'Minas de Cobre'

WORLD MUSIC CORNER
Have music will travel...anybody have any songs which upon hearing will evoke a memory of travelling somewhere?

There's nothing I like better than gazing out the window, headphones on, lost in your thoughts. Whether it's on a plane (see SH's post), train or automobile, I find it's the perfect time to listen to music.

Of course anywhere I go I inevitably have to make a playlist, preferably with songs with some sort of relevance to my destination. Knowing full well that on my return to reality, I can listen to these songs again and use them as musical transport, conjuring up memories which take me back to these places.

Ely Guerra - Dime Cuando Comenzo el Dolor (2000)

It was taken from the soundtrack to the 2000 film, 'Amores Perros', supposedly Mexico's answer to Pulp Fiction, which I was also listening to at the time.

I remember listening to this song on a bus (not like Coach Trip) from Ronda (not like the Welsh valley) to Seville, looking out on the amazing Spanish countryside, it was stinking hot. The heat was most welcome as the weather had conspired against us throughout our trip, being like Rhondda (like the Welsh valley), wet and miserable. Ely Guerra's sultry tones evokes happy memories of that fantastic trip, eating olives the size of apples, sipping ice cold Fino sherry and washed down with a Cruzcampo chaser, good times. Especially when we stumbled into a Spanish bar where the locals were putting on an incredible impromptu flamenco session, needless to say it was amazing. Mucho pasion!!!

Muy Guapa...ooh calor!
Ely Guerra - 'Dime Cuando Comenzo el Dolor'

Calexico - Minas de Cobre (for better metal) (1998)

Back in 2005, Mexico was the destination for my sister's wedding, very nice indeed. It was a small family affair and we were all tasked to pick 4 songs each with a Mexican theme, with the idea to create a playlist that'll keep everyone happy. Amongst the four, I had picked this Mayan gem and it was probably the most appropriate of songs. We were on the way back to the coast from a hot and exhausting day visiting the incredible Mayan temple of Chichen-Itza (where I made a sacrifice of sharing my crisps at lunch). Again, I found myself gazing out at the Mexican landscape. The sun was going down, a little drowsy from the refreshing beer we had before we left, passing all these little villages, many with the ubiquitous church square....perfect.

Calexico - Minas de Cobre

Next week on 'Great Bus Journey's of the World', we'll take the no.81 from Hounslow to Slough. Music aside that ride was a complete circus, guaranteed a story every trip! Anyway click here for more World Music Corner....

DYLAN COVERS #32 - Calexico - '4th Time Round' / 'Billy' (Main Theme)

CALEXICO - 4th Time Round

This is taken from a concert in Karlsruhe, Germany on the 9th July 2003. Calexico are one of my favourite bands and are no strangers to covering Dylan. They provided a major contribution to the superb soundtrack album for the 'I'm Not There' film. In fact the second cover is from the live 'I'm Not There' concert which took place on the 7th November 2007 at the Beacon theatre in New York. It is excellent and with a little bit of searching is available online.  4th Time Round of course comes from Blonde on Blonde and 'Billy' is the title track from the soundtrack of Billy the Kid featuring Kris Kristofferson and Dylan himself. A must see.

WEDNESDAY CLUB - Calexico - 'Alone Again Or'

Calexico - 'Alone Again Or' (2004)

'You know that I could be in love with almost everyone' and I just love Calexico and especially this great live cover of the Love classic, Alone again or. Isn't it great when one of your favourite bands covers one of your favourite songs. When the trumpets come in, I go all weak at the knees and have to lie down.

I have also included the the Love version and the Calexico original version at the end. What a treat you are in for!

Joey Burns and John Convertino were backing musicians with Giant Sand and they started a side project, Calexico which took off and surpassed Giant Sands. I just love their music, it could be described as Mexicano Alt Country. It is one of the few groups that all my family love together, no arguments when Calexico is on. A good starting point would be their album 'Feast of Wire'.
