FLAMING GROOVIES - Absolutely Sweet Marie
This is taken from their album 'Jumpin' in the Night'(1979). Other contenders were the versions by George Harrison and Rab Noakes
YO LA TENGO - 4th Time Round
Here is another one from that fabulous Soundtrack 'I'm not there' (2007) and it just pipped Calexico for that honour.
TONI PRICE - Obviously 5 Believers
This is from her album 'Hey' (1995) and apart from some some live poor quality versions, it was a choice between this one and a version by Sean Costello, both are equally good.
JOAN BAEZ - Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands
I just love Joan Baez covering Dylan especially her 60's output. This is taken from her album exclusively of Dylan Covers 'Any Day Now' (1968). There are some real gems there, Second in the list was the version by Steve Howe (Formally of Yes) which is really quite good as well.

Tulis commentsThe Flamin' Groovies take it this week - a great start to the day. I'm a huge Yo La Tengo fan, but their 4th Time Around is a little cover-by-numbers for me, as was Toni Price. Joanie has a brave stab at the surely uncoverable 'Sad Eyed Lady', but I feel the sheer scale of the endeavor overwhelms her.
ReplyI've thoroughly enjoyed the whole Blonde on Blonde three-parter - it certainly threw up some curve balls. Where to next OPC?
Glad you enjoyed it Mr Swede....just found some interesting Bobby Covers...the future looks bright.
