O.C. Smith - Son of Hickory Holler's Tramp/Cher - Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves

OLD PA'S WEDNESDAY CLUB

TRAMPS

They lay their Money down!

O.C. SMITH - Son of Hickory Holler's Tramp

There is nothing like a Tramp to bring out a great song. Here are two absolutely fabulous songs and believe me, they don't get much better than these. I have loved them both since I first heard them in the sixties and seventies. Both have a little of the ladies of the night running through them. Well it is the oldest occupation I suppose and maybe there should be more songs to represent this great vocation..

CHER - Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves

On a more serious note one of the the great tragedies of our time is Human Slavery. All these poor girls who are either sold or tricked into prostitution. These Evil Traffickers are no worse that animals and should be put down if caught.

In my way of thinking so should the punters who use these poor girls. They also should be put down too. If it was not for their weakness and lust there would be no need for this inhumane disgusting practice.

Strong words indeed...agreed. Maybe I'm naive but I always assumed that the 'tramps' in question in these songs were mere hobos and not ladies of the night. O.C's track is decent but I never liked the Cher one.

Right on, Old Pa.
Music-wise, both these songs are superb and I, too, have loved them for most of my life. Of course, when I was a child I really did think that the 'son of Hickory Holler's Tramp' was merely the off-spring of a gentleman of the road. Stupid kid, wasn't I? 'Gypsies' is the best song Cher has ever been associated with.

SB - Could not agree more Cher's finest moment.
'Preach a little gospel, sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good'
