This week we have A Eurovision Song Contest Special, here are three Babes who represented Great Britain in this hideous competition. Saying that, when I was a kid in the 50's and early 60's I used to love the show and it was always a highlight.
Well ffolks, it goes to show there is life after Eurovision.
First up is Lulu, the mighty lass from Glasgow, with her rendition of the Mighty Quinn, bad, but I have heard worse. Her Eurovision effort was Boom Bang-a-Bang which won in 1969. Nothing to Shout about.
LULU - The Mighty Quinn
Next for scrutiny is Sandy Shaw singing a pretty good Lay Lady Lay. Her Eurovision song was the ghastly Puppet on a String which won the contest in 1967.

SANDY SHAW - Lay Lady Lay
Finally we have Olivia Neutron Bomb the Aussie bombshell. Who can forget these tight black satin leggings she wore as Sandy. Her Euro song was Long Live Love which was 4th in 1974. Here she sings a boring cover of If Not For You.

OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN - If Not For You
Finally we have an added bonus of possibly the worst Dylan cover ever and I mean that. There have been some horrible covers and I have featured some in the past, but this takes a lot of beating. The whole disaster is almost saved by the fabulous pink tight number warn by Lulu.

Tulis commentsLulu's 'Mighty Quinn' has a naff fake funkiness that is appealing for about two seconds.
ReplySandie's 'Lay Lady Lay' is probably the most interesting of this bunch in a soporific sort of way. Pretty weird, really.
ONJ - Oh God, my brother had that album! You're giving me horrors.
Lulu's 'Mr. Tambourine Man' is the best thing here due to its complete and utter awfulness. Worst Dylan cover ever? Possibly but I bet there are others. Find them!
I made the mistake of heading straight for 'Mr Tambourine Man' and was so overwhelmed by it's utter wrongness that I couldn't concentrate on the other tunes for a while.
ReplyI like the drums on 'Mighty Quinn', does that count? 'Lay Lady Lay' is an odd choice for Sandie, but, yes, it's the best of the bunch. ONJ's 'If Not For You' is one of the earliest Dylan songs that I was aware of as a kid, so deserves some credit I suppose. Who's that imitating George's guitar sound?
I've been wracking my brain to remember some of the (ahem) lesser covers you've included in this series so far, perhaps you should do a bottom 5 recap. Telly Savalas springs to mind!
William Shatner's Mr Tambourine Man
Replyis in my bottom 5...........
Manofpeace - Will Shatner's Mr M sure is nasty here are a couple more for you which are pretty hideous to http://tunedr.blogspot.com.es/2012/05/dylan-covers-51-four-seasons-dont-think.htmlis
ReplyLike the great underrated German Television critic Oliver Kalkofe says: It's got the charm of a bucketful of chopped pork meat. At least is does. Or, as Bob Dylan probably would ask: Is there a hole for me to get sick in?
ReplyKarl - briliant, i am just back from the pub Karl and i cant think of anthing smart to say
ReplySometimes the silence can be like thunder
Sometimes I wanna take to the road and plunder
