Santa Esmerelda - 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' (1977)
There has always been a fascination with Latin music for me, namely anything Spanish or Mexican sounding. I love the guitar, trumpets and flamenco clapping, I can't get enough. This song has it all and I would personally like to thank Quentin Tarrantino for bringing it to my attention on the Kill Bill soundtrack. As with all his films, the soundtrack is fabulous, scattered with a whole bunch of songs that tick the Mexican sounding box for me.
Latin Disco? So misunderstood! |
I remember sitting in my mum's garden in Spain, having a glass of vino blanco, reading The Davinci Code and we were all listening to the Kill Bill soundtrack. It was a balmy evening and the music was perfect in fitting with the heat and insects buzzing around. I was starting to picture myself in Mexico for my wedding which was a year away at the time. Me in my dress, standing in one of those little white Mexican churches, looking out through the open doorway, seeing a few tumble weeds blow past and the Mariachis start up, signalling the fiesta that is about to begin! Well, that would have been different but walking down the aisle on one of the most breathtaking beaches with my toes in the warm sand with London Scouser was just as memorable! With the help of the Kill Bill double album and Calexico, I created our own wedding soundtrack with Santa Esmerelda taking pride of place! Viva Mexico!

Tulis commentsFirst heard this in Kenya in late seventies it became the soundtrack of the Holiday..the break in the middle when the clappiong starts is worth the admission alone. A true classic.
