TUESDAY BLUES!! Keaton Henson - Sweetheart, What Have You Done To Us?

Do you like Singer/Songwriters, or do you have a unhealthy affection to the sadness, if so you may have a case of the Tuesday Blues!

Keaton Henson - Sweetheart, What Have You Done To Us?

One of the Best British Songwriters of the last 12 Months has returned more melancholic than ever. Henson has yet again bared his soul to all, and I for one, am delighted. Whereas his most recent release Kronos, showed us a darker, heavier side, Sweetheart evokes memories of Jeff Buckley, and whereas this comparison is often used for sound-a-likes who just follow a formula, Keaton is the real deal. Songs this genuine should be savoured.

I wonder what his speaking voice is like? There is such a plethora of profoundly sad singer-songwriters these days that I fear for the mental health of the world. Are they reflecting genuine melancholy or are they just making us all melancholic? Is it a true statement of the spiritual heart of mankind or a pose? Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of the old sad singer-songwriter - aren't we all driven by some kind of angst? - but I sometimes wonder what these chaps have to be so sad about? If it's real, I feel really sorry for them; if (as I suspect) it's largely just an act, then why? There must be something deep within us that just wants to wallow in pain, I suppose.

'I'm only happy when I'm sad'......in a way I share the same sentiment as you as it does seem, as Sfw says, a formula is followed. Must be sad, wear a plaid shirt, grow a beard etc. but when u hear the content, it's sometimes hard to see it as contrived. Probably incomparable but Tom Rush's voice sounds so resigned on 'No Regrets' for example.

Thanks for the comments and I do think you are right Mr Bear. There is a glut of these sad chaps and whether they are fake, or should that be, genuine, is open to debate. However, I do think that this guy is real and from what I've read, he genuinely is gutted.

What have they got to to be sad about? - I'm constantly complaining about the weather, my drive to work, or even last weekends Rugby result - but have tried and failed to right something that sounds so good - Gutted!
