Everything But The Girl - 'Walking Wounded' (1996)
With music as accessible as it is is today, sometimes I'm a little overwhelmed as to what to listen to as I can have whatever I want, when I want it! Over the last week where we have had our long awaited heatwave, I've been chilling (or burning as it were) in the garden playing music through Spotify. I thought to myself, what do I really want to hear right now in this glorious sunshine? Then it hit me, the album 'Walking Wounded' by EBTG! It has to be one of my all time favourite albums and it immediately makes me think of the summers of yore where we had fantastic long balmy days usually ending in BBQs.

Everything But The Girl - 'Wrong' (1996)
It was hard to pick a favourite track, so I picked two! Tracy Thorn's vocals would have to feature in a "Best of the 90s" top 10 if it was up to me. I remember when 'Wrong' was number 1, I was 14 or 15. Pressure had been mounting at school as I was of GCSE age and it was all the teachers would talk about. All I was thinking about was getting to the end of the school year and doing absolutely nothing for a month!
On the last day of school, we did an obligatory day trip out to somewhere usually Thorpe Park. For everyone, it was a chance to show off your individuality not having to wear our Catholic School Uniform. It also meant it was time for cupid to work his magic! Sat on the bus, I had my Walkman on with a freshly made mix tape. A few of the lads in my class were asking me about what I was listening to and the guy I REALLY fancied shared the earphones with me so we had one each, sat next to each other. I was the envy of the other girls because he was extremely eligible! I wish I could have bottled that feeling of excitement! Luckily, I made a real effort with my tape, in case of this eventuality and 'Wrong' reminds me of that bus trip.

Tulis commentsI was a huge EBTG fan when they started up in the early 80's. I love Tracy's voice. I never really followed their career after their first two albums, which sounds mad, I know. These are fab and I hope it will prompt me to give them another listen.
ReplyThanks SB, if you like these two, this album really is one you'd enjoy. I'd have to admit, I'm not too familiar with their earlier stuff but I'm about to check it out!
ReplyI love this album, agreed you have to listen to it all the way through. Great tracks and difficult as it may be, my choice would have to be 'Flipside'.
