Susanna Hoffs - 'Boys Keep Swinging' (1991)
I was a huge fan of The Bangles back in the day from the moment I first heard 'Manic Monday'. I used to pride myself on the fact that I could recite the whole of "Walk Like An Egyptian' and without the need to do the dance. I was gutted when they split up until I saw that Susanna Hoffs had released a solo album 'When You're A Boy'. I immediately bought it and wasn't disappointed. After all it had a cover on it, that being a David Bowie song from his 1979 album 'Lodger'.
The Bangles - 'Hazy Shade Of Winter' (1987)
I've also included 'Hazy Shade Of Winter' by The Bangles which is a cover of 'Simon & Garfunkel's 1966 track. I really liked this song when it came out as it was a bit rockier than most of their other records. It featured on the soundtrack of the film 'Less Than Zero' which was based on the book by Bret Easton Ellis, who also wrote 'American Psycho' amongst others.
NERD ALERT - Susanna Hoffs was a member of the fictitious band 'Ming Tea' in the Austin Powers films, and she is married to the director of the trilogy, Jay Roach
And here are the originals....
