DYLAN COVERS #137 America/Steve Earle - My Back Pages

Where's that Volkswagen?
AMERICA - My Back Pages (2011)

Remember America?, A Horse with no Name, Ventura Highway, The Tin Man, not bad stuff, but they kind of disappeared. Well I found this album Back Pages (2011) which contains quite a good cover of My Back Pages.

Also check out this take by Steve Earle from an album Sidetracks (2002)  not at all bad.

Kind of like the elegiac (if that's the right word) feel of America's version. Accordion is a nice touch. I loved 'Horse With No Name', 'Ventura Highway' and 'The Sand Man'.

Steve - always love the man's voice except he does sound a little like a bizarre kind of annoying Yank brat on '...ah but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now'. Weird. Not bad but a bit boring.

The America version is unexpectedly good, very nicely done.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Steve Earle's music. Part's of his catalogue I have a lot of time for, while some of it I can live without. I'm afraid this falls into the latter category.
