The comic book and Me! |
Here we have three different versions of one of my favourite tracks from the Basement Tapes, Yea Heavy and a Bottle of Bread.
Oh! I remember it well, one day I went to my local record shop in 1972 and there was this fabulous LP of Dylan's Basement Tapes output. It had a picture cover of cartoons depicting each track. I snapped it up immediately and rushed home for a Basement session. It was nothing more than sensational and the LP was called the Little White Wonder the picture of the cover is above. This was well before they released the official Basements tapes album. I was in heaven.
HANK SHIZZOE AND THE DIRECTORS - Yea Heavy and a Bottle of Bread (2009)
The first take is by Hank Shizzoe and the Directors and is from their album Live in Motown. I really like this version, probably my favourite of the three.
The next is by the Invisible Republic and from an album featuring tracks all taken from the Basement Tapes and is called A Basement Tapes Revival (2011)
INVISIBLE REPUBLIC - Yea Heavy and a Bottle of Bread (2011)
Finally we have a version by New Red River Rebellion and is from their album Discount Everything (2013)
NEW RED RIVER REBELLION - Yea Heavy and a Bottle of Bread (2013)
