DYLAN COVERS #106 Marty Ehrhlich - Blind Willie McTell/Jewells and Binoculars - Dark Eyes

Jazz Pt 1
It's Marty!

JEWELLS AND BINOCULARS - Dark Eyes (2001)

Today is the first jazz day. I have listened to quite a lot of Jazz  Dylan  covers over the last few weeks so here are my first two choices. The first is by  Jewells and Binoculars  and as the name suggests they are very into covering  Dylan.  The take of  Dark Eyes  is taken from their album  The Music of Bob Dylan (2001) and is pretty good. There are quite a few live cuts by JAB going the rounds if you want some more.

The second take is by Marty Ehrhich's  and is from the album  Soujourn (1999). If you are partial to a bit of  woodwind  and stuff like that, then this is for you.

Although both are instrumentals they are just fabulous.

Thanks for posting Blind Willie McTell but it is from Marty Ehrlich's wonderful solo record Sojourn ( not Dark Wood Ensemble another of his outfits) -- it's a duet with the ubiquitous Marc Ribot on guitar

Anon - Of course you are correct 'Sojourn' is under his name only. Thanks for taking the time to call. I have updated/Old Pa

Both of these are totally surprising delights and utterly spiffing. Who'd have thought that Bob's TUNES could work so well without the words? More please!

I'm with the good Mr Bear all the way, these are both excellent. I definitely need to hear more from Jewels & Binoculars.
