JUDY COLLINS - Send in the Clowns
HOUDINI'S PUNCH
Red telephone boxes
smelt of piss
i never saw it comming
Houdini's Punch
my mind was numb
a marching zombie
owned by the night
owned by the night
the hail, the sleet
the maggot wind
the dreich
Houdini's punch
garrotting my guts
twisting, strangling
tighter and tighter
twisting, strangling
tighter and tighter
the bile rising
i needed to vomit
i wanted to scream!
howl!
i needed to vomit
i wanted to scream!
howl!
but nothing came out
i arrived
at i don't know where
or how i got there
i did 'nt care
i did 'nt care
i had lost the night
i had lost my love
i had lost my love

Tulis commentsThese words definitely convey something very strong and dark. I like 'maggot wind' a lot. Is Judy Collins directly related to this or does she just convey a mood?
ReplySB - 'I thought that you'd want what I want' ....She din'nt
ReplyI recognise the emotions that you've expressed so well, emotions that many of us will have experienced at one time or another. I used to write and write when I was in a similar turmoil, then symbolically destroy it all after I'd got through it. I half wish that I'd held on to some of that stuff, but that was part of the process.
ReplyOuch, someone got smacked in the face several times by the Flip Flop of Love!
