DYLAN COVERS #79 Ian Campbell - The Times they are a Changin'

IAN CAMPBELL R.I.P (1933-2012)

IAN CAMPBELL FOLK GROUP - The Times they are a Changin'(1965)

The Ian Campbell Folk Group were a very popular and influential folk groups in the British folk scene of the 1960s. They performed mainly traditional along with some contemporary folk based songs.

They actually performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 1964, where they would have witnessed first hand a young Bob Dylan himself. Maybe that is where they got the inspiration to release their version of  "The Times they are a Changin"  which reached  #42 in the UK Singles Charts. Quite an achievement for a folk group at the time or in fact anytime. I remember it well, but there was only one version for me and that reached number 14 in the charts in 1964. Bob's first chart entry in the U.K.

You will be sadly missed Ian R.I.P.

I hadn't realised that he played Newport, or charted with 'Times...'. An eventful life and a sad loss for the folk community. RIP.
