FAMILY - Weaver's Answer (1968)
Who has the greatest rock voice of them all? Is it Van Morrison, Rod Stewart, Dan MacCaffety, Jo Cocker, Robert Plant, Chris Cornell, I don't hear the name Roger Chapman and I am asking the question why? His voice is pure rock, it is so different but distinctive....some say it is like a bleating sheep, these people should be flocked up, sheared and made to listen continually to Glee's Greatest Hits as punishment (no disrespect intended to our younger followers). I loved Family the first time I heard them and always bought their albums until they broke up in the 70s. Roger Chapman continues to make records to this day, check him out.
Rodger Chapman(in full clown regalia)
'The Weavers Answer' from their Entertainment album was one of those records that was always first on after a visit to the pub, rushing home for a fuelled musical session. 'I'm first!'.
'Entertainment' (What a great Cover)
I remember when they released 'No Mules fool' in 1970, I bought 5 copies and gave them to my best loved friends. It is still one of my favourites and I have left a copy at the end of this post. Family are there to be loved and shared.
Getting hold of any 'Best of Family' albums will be time and effort very well spent, great stuff!!!

Tulis commentsSpot on! Family were a fantastic group and Chapman's voice is unique. I love it. Remember the days when this band could actually get in the singles charts? I doubt they'd even get a contract today. Brilliant post.
ReplySB Thanks, Yes they should have been bigger than they were. I remember seeing the film 'The Adventurers' and there was a scene in an American Disco...and 'Family' were the live band playing. Can't find reference to it anywhere and don't remember the song. I will keep searching, it's bugging me now!
ReplyBleating sheep!!?? Pff! I can't believe you've never played this to me before or at least push it with the other stuff. Excellent track, 70's psychedelia complete with sax break. I can't wait to listen to 'No Mules Fool' if this is anything to go by (I know exactly what you mean about buying copies for your friends). As for Glee, well there are some adults would murder to join Glee club. I quite like the gym teacher, no not in that way!
ReplyF played this 60's tune many many times..there are lots of great 'Family'tracks just as good...great band.
ReplyFlycasual, this has been played so many times it hurts! I think it was played directly after the Dylan shifter! Pa, I have to finally to agree with you, its a great track and nice to put a artist name to the memory. You can't beat the guitar and drum battle midway. More of a mountain goat to me though.
ReplyLondon Scouser here unable to log in.
ReplyOn first hearing I thought his voice reminded me of Led Zep, but then again I download and watch Glee so what do I know !!! I think I'll stay quiet, as I don't want to bleat on about it
