Eddie Berman with Laura Marling - Dancing In The Dark (2013)
My memory is getting bad. I heard this a few months ago and was blown away, but I sadly forgot to share it. So when I saw the winner of the voice performing this exact version I needed to find it and reclaim it for Eddie & Laura.
I've posted Laura Marling tracks in the past, her talent needs to be seen to be believed - on this she's not even trying - it looks like she is thinking about her afternoon tea. She's the musical equivalent of George Best, completely effortless, sorry, I'm gushing. As for Eddie, he's pretty rad, he has a beard and long nails. :-)
Anyway, it captures the beauty of Springsteen's tale of desperation and wanting to escape a shitty town perfectly. It also hit a nerve and triggered a number of memories from my youth. Feeling trapped living in a small Welsh mining town, wanting to escape and knowing there are better things out there....

Tulis commentsSpeaking as someone who IS trapped (but, we're all trapped in some way, wherever we are)in a small Welsh (former) mining village, I can only agree that this is lovely and far more palatable than The Boss's original.
ReplyLaura...LAURA!!! Concentrate! I love the original growing up in the eighties but this is amazing...the Boss must be so proud. Cut dem nails pal....
ReplyOne of the Boss's great tracks. Probably the best cover of the song I have heard.
