Ali Farka Toure & Toumani Diabate - Ruby (2006)
A magnificent and entrancing song by Mali's Kora (a 21 string harp like instrument) king Toumani Diabate and the late Blues legend Ali Farka Toure taken from their colloborative album, 'Ali and Toumani'. Recorded in 2006 but released in 2010, it contains some of Toure's very last known recordings with 'Ruby' named and dedicated to producer and long term friend, Nick Gold's daughter. I remember going to see Tinariwen at the Koko last November and walking in whilst this song was resonating from the venue's soundsystem, it was amazing to hear it loud, made even more special as I was listening to this album at the time. Toumani's Kora just seems to dance around Toure's Rhythm and Blues hook with the hypnotising effect of snake charmer.

Tulis commentsI've been steadily accumulating Toumani Diabaté's albums since the late 1990's, 'New Ancient Strings' being my favourite along with the wonderful and poignant pair of releases with Ali Farka Toure.
ReplyA splendid way to start this humid, airless morning. Thank you for posting.
This is beautiful
