Röyksopp - 'Poor Leno' (2001)
The first song I liked from Röyksopp was their first single, 'So Easy', which was on the T-Mobile TV advert, but after I saw the music video of 'Poor Leno', I was hooked. Being a big softy when it comes to animals, I struggled to watch it. The poor little blighter is missing his home! It's definitely a firm fave of mine as it's great electro dance song with dreamy lyrics and a satisfying clatter of steel drums thrown in.
I want one |
I remember being given Melody A.M for my 21st birthday at the same time my parents had gone on holiday and I "offered" to house sit. If I remember rightly, it was a bit of a heavy week. A messy pub crawl in central London with Flycasual and London Scouser, drinks with work colleagues and naturally I had planned a bit of a do too. I spent a long while sorting out the music for the evening, including making a CD mix with Poor Leno on it. The party kicked off nicely civilised with a few close friends having some beers. I was a little paranoid of my parent's house getting trashed by some punk freeloaders but that sort of thing must only happen in 80's teen films. As the night progressed, the drinks got harder(from lager to tequila and JD) and the music got louder! While my friends were getting pleasantly pissed, I sneaked over to the hifi and pressed repeat when Poor Leno came on. I was so into it at the time and couldn't get enough! I committed the DJ crime of the century and got away with it for about 6 plays! I blamed it on a "slip of the hand".
Where's the party at? |
If I had DJ mixing equipment, I would splice this straight into 'Pump Up The Volume' by MAARS. You'll have to tell me if I'm alone on this but I think the beats are almost identical.

Tulis commentsLove this song and indeed the whole album. My favourite track has got to be "Eple". It is actually physically impossbile to be grumpy whlst listening to that song.
ReplyI agree Kate, it was a corker of an album. I loved Eple too, a good summer tune!
Reply'So Easy' smashed it bruv! I loved that single and I remember the advert with the bairn! Leno is a great track and thinking about it the bassline would splice nicely with 'Pump up the Volume'.
ReplySo thats what you got up to when I'm away, I was about to ground you but as it's such a great track, you're forgiven! Just buy me a pint.
ReplyPlayed Melody AM to death when it came out, and we managed to catch them live several times that year. Loved Leno and its video. Live though their stand out track from this album was Röyksopp's Night Out. Happy times.
