It's track of the week time and we have three bumper pack tracks of chewie bones for you! Do you have any treats for us? Please let us know!
SFW:-Florence + The Machine - 'What the water gave me' (2011)
I've been mulling over my TOTW but I must admit I'm smitten by this track. It's an epic return for Florence (& her machine), it supposedly references Frida Kaha and Virginia Woolf, but I haven't heard it.. If you don't like her, give it a listen (a few times) and it might change your minds - it did me. I'll be dressing up like a fairy with butterfly wings next, don't know if it's due to this though - sorry, I digress....
Old Pa's Corner:-
Jackson Browne -You know the Night
WARNING "Track of the Year contender"
JACKSON BROWN - You Know the Night by stellagoodgirl
“You Know the Night,” performed by the magnificent Jackson Browne with Rob Wasserman, is the lead single from Note of Hope, a celebration of Woody Guthrie, based on unpublished writings that the great man wrote between 1942 and 1954 while living in New York City and Brooklyn. Browne and Wasserman wrote the music for “You Know the Night". The album version of the epic love song – which describes the evening Woody first met the woman destined to become his second wife, Marjorie Mazia – is nearly 15 minutes long while the radio edit is four minutes. I am looking forward to that 15 minute version, in fact can't wait for the full album. Jackson Browne is up there with my all time favourite artists, check him out! A Best of will enhance any Collection.

Little Roy - 'Come As You Are' (2011)
Love Reggae? Check! Love Nirvana? Check! So this is win win! However I'm just a little unsure of it as yet as I can't help but feel that it's a bit of a novelty record. I enjoyed the Easy Star Allstars covers of Radiohead and Pink Floyd so I will crack open the Red Stripe and give this a real go.
This is taken from the forthcoming Nirvana covers album, Battle For Seattle and is to coincide with the 20th anniversary (yes I said 20) release of the classic, Nevermind. Battle For Seattle is by Reggae veteran Little Roy and produced by Brighton based roots rocka Prince Fatty, with his trademark dub sound. I'm fans of both so win win again! Hear meh kno!

Tulis commentsGuys, as usual, 3 tasty tit bits that will be guaranteed growers!
Replysfw - heard this song a couple of times and Florence is working the usual magic. I know after a few more hears it will be a solid fave. Thank god there is a fresh new song to be played constantly over the radio waves!
Pa - I actually like this. Having not listened to Woody much, I never noticed the sort of Deacon Blue sound to his voice.
Fly - I'm with you, I can't decide if I'm 100% convinced on this track but I'm definately interested. I especially like the bit when the ladies start singing.
My track of the week is AWOLNATION - Sail. It's just been re-released in prep for their album release which is great coz I missed it first time round! Check it out, if you haven't already.
Shell Hunter the singer is Jackson Browne, Woody wrote the lyrics....I'm sure Woody would have been proud to be assosiated with Deacom Blue tho. Woody had lots of 'Dignity'.
ReplyEek, that was a typo pa, well spotted.I must have been Real Gone, Kid
ReplyI like that...'the woman destined to be his second wife', good track, good feel and sentiment.
Replynot sure about Flo but to be fair I've only heard it once and even that was on passing so SFW I will report back with my findings.
Never heard of Awolnation (does it have to be capitals?) but I'm on it!
I do like this track however reminds me of some fantastic and brilliant 'Icelandic volcano' footage I have........ is it just me or can anyone else hear a slight connection with the Icelandic lot?

Old Pa: 15 minutes?!! I'm enjoying hearing Jackson Browne (who, I agree, is a great artist) on these Woody lyrics but 15 minutes? I'm looking forward to hearing more of the album.
ReplyFlycasual: I really enjoyed the Nirvana cover. It's tempting me to get the album. I, too, love both Nirvana and reggae and I'm surprised by how well this works.
Apologies, the track I was on about was Flo and her Machine.
ReplyGood stuff! I need to listen to some Jackson Browne albums, where shall I start? Anyone?
ReplyYou lucky guy all these JB albums to listen to....he is up there! start with 'Late for the Sky' and 'Foreveryman' but any of his greatest hits, best of, you cant go wrong.
Replysfw - like the Flrence one, was better 2nd hearing
ReplyFC - as you say win win, it's not bad, it's like the various Dylan reggae cover albums, they are good but!
Pstar...I see what you mean. The sort of epic soundscapes along with Florence's voice? A bit like Sigur Ros and ting..Jonsi is the singer from that group right?
ReplyFlycasual.....CORRECT-A-MONDO :-)
ReplyI cannot begin to tell you how much I did not want to like the Nirvana cover but I really do ...
ReplyKate, I agree... a nice twist..of lime with rum. Easy Kno!
ReplyI shouldn't say it...but the Florence track would work very well in the new Twiglet, I mean Twilight film....
